About

Hello! My name is Juli and I’m the designer and sewist behind Sewing Pattern Society. I was born and raised in Hawaii and now live in the SF bay area with my fiance.
My sewing journey started over 20 years ago when my mom enrolled me in two summer sewing classes during elementary school: a hand sewing class where we made teddy bears and a machine sewing class focused on fashion. I immediately fell in love with sewing, and for years after I filled notebooks with fashion sketches, spent hours playing fashion video games (does anyone remember Designer’s World from the 2000s??), and never missed an episode of Project Runway that I could catch on tv. I even designed and sewed my high school graduation party dress. Then sewing took a back seat when I left Hawaii for college and later started my first job after graduating.

Sewing Pattern Society started when I reconnected with my inner child and genuine love for designing, creating, and sewing. It also began out of a little bit of frustration. No matter how many hours I spent searching, I struggled to find sewing patterns in the styles I wanted to wear, so I started to design and make exactly what I was looking for. Every piece I created brought an incredible feeling of joy, pride, and accomplishment, which only made me want to create more. With encouragement from my fiance, I began sharing my sewing journey online and offering the sewing patterns I had created.
My hope is that by sharing both the highs and lows of sewing, you’ll feel encouraged to see your own projects through to the finish line. There’s something so rewarding about making something from scratch, and I hope you get to experience that same sense of joy, pride, and accomplishment that I love so much.
